Appleby Horse Fair 08
The annual fair has been held since 1685 (a relatively new event compared to the neighbouring fair at Brough which started 350 years earlier!). It is visited by Romany families trading horses and generally having a good time.
For an outside observer, it is a much about the people as the horses.
Fortunately an attempt to ban the fair by the local council some years ago failed.
